PGDay UK does not fail to deliver once again

The morning of PGDay UK came around, and upon my arrival into the capital city of London, I was left with no doubt as to where I was. Rainfall and tube strikes made for a slightly more challenging commute to the event, but felt distinctively British, although thankfully the sun shone (figuratively, this is still London), as I arrived at the Cavendish Conference Centre.

The buzz of excitement in the room was at the usual high levels of community events, and it seemed the rain and tube strikes had not dampened the enthusiasm of the attendees.

Meeting the community

Many familiar faces were in sight, but the interest levels hit a fever pitch after our very own Jan Karremans delivered his post lunch talk on the exciting development of the launch of the first ever official PostgreSQL certification – The Open Alliance for Postgres Education.

I was manning the CYBERTEC stand and fielded numerous conversations with Postgres professionals from both customers and Postgres companies about the development of the Open Alliance, with the general sentiment seemingly being that this was about time!

We await with excitement as this community certification matures.

A point of interest for the pgdayuk event, which I also attended last year, was conversations I got to pick up again an entire year later. It seems that this event is a fixed “must attend” event for some, and their repeated attendance did indeed allow for the continuation of conversations from the previous year.

As the day wrapped up, there was a sense of general satisfaction from the audience, who had been well fed and hydrated whilst enjoying being presented with the very latest developments and perspectives from the knowledge base of keynote speakers – all key members of the Postgres community.

Time for reflection

The conclusion of the day was to just make sure everyone was indeed kept fully hydrated, as many descended on the local watering hole, where the staff of the Jackalope made sure everyone’s glasses were suitably filled.  The chat outside the pub was full of discussions of the day and talk about how we will all meet up at the next pgday event. Until next time…
